Tyler Food Shelf - OPEN HOUSE

The Tyler Food Shelf will be having an Open House at their new location this Sunday, November 17th from 11am to 1pm.  The new location is located behind Tyler City Hall and the remodeling job turned out great.  The Tyler Area Community Foundation was able to help with some of the costs of the remodeling project by recently awarding the Food Shelf with a $1,000 Endowment Grant.  There is still some work to do get all of the costs paid for with the remodeling, so additional monetary donations will be accepted at the Open House.  Food Donations will also be accepted at the Open House.

Stay tuned for next week's post to learn more about the Waffle Feed Fundraiser that will be held Sunday, November 24th at the Tyler Legion Hall from 9am to Noon.  The Swimming Pool Group is looking to raise additional dollars to improve the Tyler Swimming Pool.

Tyler Food Shelf and Pool Projects

It's been awhile since I posted an update, so here goes.

Last night at the foundation board meeting, we heard updates on two on-going projects.

The Tyler Swimming Pool project was up first and we heard about how well the slide was received by the kids this year.  Kristie Johnson informed the board that they will be looking at updating the chairs and tables around the main pool and that the pool group would also be looking at holding another fundraising breakfast the weekend before Thanksgiving to raise dollars for the kiddie pool area.

Joan Jagt then updated the group on the Tyler Food Shelf project.  She mentioned that demolition would start soon and the remodeling would begin soon after.  The food shelf board is expecting the need to raise $10,000 to complete the project.  The are also planning to have a fundraiser, so please stay tuned and we will get that information out as soon as we have it.

If you would like to donate to the Food Shelf project, Swimming Pool project or to our endowment fund, you can make your check out to TACF and mail it to PO Box 239, Tyler, MN  56178.  Remember to write which project you want to donate to on the check and we will make sure it gets put into that account.

Also, stay tuned to the blog and to the newspaper as we start to look for community projects that would be eligible to receive endowment fund grant dollars this year.  We will also be looking for new board members in the next couple of months, so please let us know if you are interested in joining us.   To learn more about the foundation, you can visit with our current board members.  Current board members include:  April Thomas, Glen Petersen, Gary Manson, Joyce Dass, Robert Wolfington, Sandy Enemark, Kristie Johnson, Joan Jagt and Tim O'Leary

TACF Annual Meeting

The Tyler Area Community Foundation held its annual meeting last night to appoint members to new terms on the board and to elect officers for the board.  We would like to welcome Kristie Johnson to the board.  Kristie will be replacing Trent Hess on the board.  We would also like to thank Trent for his 3 years on the board.  The board elected following individuals to serve as officers:  Tim O'Leary, Chair; Sandy Enemark, Vice-Chair; Gary Manson, Treasurer; and Joan Jagt, Secretary.  Other members of the board include:  April Thomas, Robert Wolfington, Glen Peterson, Joyce Dass and Kristie Johnson.

In other news, we were excited to hear that the Swimming Pool Project had received a donation from an anonymous donor in the amount of $25,700.  We want to thank that donor and all of the other donors throughout the year for their donations and their commitment to Tyler Area and foundation projects.

The board also opened up a new project fund for the Tyler Area Food Shelf which is looking at remodeling the former Chat and Chew building on Main Street.  Currently, the food shelf is operating out of the back of The Rock as it looks for a new home.

If you would like to donate to the Food Shelf project, Swimming Pool Project or the Foundation's Endowment Fund, you may send your donation to:  TACF, PO Box 239, Tyler, MN  56178 and indicate on the check or in a note which project fund you would like to support with your donation.

On behalf of the TACF Board, we would like to thank the Tyler Area Residents for their continued support of the Foundation and the Community of Tyler.  THANK YOU!

New Project - Tyler Swimming Pool Improvement Project

The TACF Board would like to announce the Tyler Swimming Pool Improvement Project as its next project fund. The project was kicked off with a $1,200 TACF Endowment Fund Grant. The Endowment Grant will be used to help the committee start its fundraising efforts.

You can also help this project get off the ground by attending Dad's Belgian Waffle Feed at the Tyler Legion. The waffle feed will be held this Sunday, November 18th, and they will be serving from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The Swimming Pool Improvement Committee is hoping to raise $25,000 over the next couple of years. The funds will be used to purchase and install a new slide. Funds will also be used to make other needed improvements at the Pool, so that more people will be able to take advantage of this community asset.

For those of you that can't make the waffle feed, you can send your donation to TACF (put Swimming Pool Project on the memo line or in a note) and mail it to PO Box 239, Tyler, MN 56178. You can also drop off a donation with Gary Manson at the Log Cabin or Tim O'Leary at Lyon-Lincoln Electric. All donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt from our partner, the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF).

Give to the Max Day is November 15th!

Greetings from the Tyler Area Community Foundation!

GiveMN’s “Give to the Max Day” is coming up on Nov. 15th and we would like to provide you information about this fundraising campaign. GiveMN’s “Give to the Max Day” was created to raise as much money as possible for non-profit organizations like the Tyler Area Community Foundation in a 24 hour period. Since 2009, GiveMN has raised more than $48 million for more than 6,100 non-profits. GiveMN will continue there successful golden ticket opportunity and it will award 24 Golden Tickets in 2012. The Golden Tickets are $1,000 prize grants that will be given randomly every hour of the campaign. There will also be one supersized Golden Ticket valued at $10,000 which will be added to one lucky donor's gift.

In addition to the Golden Tickets, our partner organization, the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF), will be giving out 2 Silver Tickets. Here is how the Silver Tickets will work: All donors who give to the Tyler Area Community Foundation’s general endowment fund during the 24-hour period will be eligible to have a $500 prize added to their gift, courtesy of matching funds from SWIF. Last year, Joyce Dass was a Silver Ticket winner. Two winners will be selected out of all community foundation partners of SWIF (there are 21 of us). A $10 gift to our endowment qualifies to the same extent as a $1,000+ gift (i.e. one gift equals one chance). The more gifts we receive, the better our chances!

The Tyler Area Community Foundation GiveMN page is located at: http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Tyler-Area-Community-Foundation-Endowment-Fund.

We hope you will consider donating to our general endowment fund through the GiveMN “Give to the Max Day” and maybe we can receive a golden or silver ticket which will add to our endowment fund. So, mark your calendars for Nov. 15th and let your family, friends and neighbors know about this fundraising opportunity.
